February 2023: MicronRF laboratory is awarded a DARPA grant under the DARPA Optomechanical Thermal Imaging (OpTIm) program. The project will focus on the development of Nano-opto-mechanical Piezoelectric Resonant Infrared-sensitive Metamaterials for Quantum-Limited Photodetection. The team aims to demonstrate an ultra-small (100 μm2) spectrally selective Infrared detector pixel with two orders of magnitude higher resolution and speed than any state-of-the-art technology. July 2021: MicronRF laboratory is awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop an Ising machine for massive-scale computing and optimization. In the next three years, we will work closely to demonstrate a new path towards quantum-like computing capabilities leveraging the exotic dynamics exhibited by chip-scale networks of electroacoustic parametric oscillators operating at room temperature and built through semiconductor processes frequently used to mass-produce any commercial integrated circuits. January 2021: Prof. Cassella is awarded the NSF CARRER from the National Science Foundation to create a new component that will surpass the material limitations that have prevented the achievement of low-loss acoustic resonant technologies, even with moderate frequency tuning ranges. This will allow the creation of new on-chip acoustic-based passives and will provide the means to achieve significantly more stable FSs for future networking components.
